UICM Bandung Community Service Team Conducts Post-Harvest Papaya Processing Skills Training in Bojong Village
BANDUNG-JAYA NEWS.COM – Insan Cendekia Mandiri University (UICM) Bandung, West Java, through a community service team led by Dr. Ir. Farida Iriani, M.P., along with team members Prof. Agus Winarti, M.Pd., Rd. Duhita D. Utama, S.T., M.T.P., Miko Syahputra Arifin, and Jamjam Nurjaman, conducted community service activities in Bojong Village, Banjarwangi District, Garut Regency, West Java Province.
This activity aimed to provide training in formulating processed papaya products, such as jam and syrup, to members of the Banyumuli farmer group.
“This way, they can improve their skills in processing papaya into processed products that can be stored longer and are easier to distribute,” said Dr. Ir. Farida Iriani, M.P. Head of the UICM Community Service Program, speaking to the press on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Farida continued, explaining that this community service activity was held on September 14-15, 2025, at the UICM Chemistry Laboratory and at the home of the Banyumuli farmer group leader in Bojong Village. Previously, the UICM team had conducted several trial and error sessions to find the best formula for processed papaya products.
“The training activity to make processed papaya jam and syrup was successfully implemented and was attended by 10 participants. The resulting products were well-liked by the community because they lacked the undesired papaya aroma and retained the distinctive papaya flavor,” she added.
Several participants admitted they had been looking forward to training like this for a long time and immediately practiced at home after the event. This activity also inspired people who cultivate other fruit crops to start processing their harvests into processed products.
The UICM team will continue to monitor the activities of the farmer groups they have mentored and plans to provide guidance and training on making papaya-based jelly candy at the end of September.
“Through this community service activity, it is hoped that the people of Bojong Village can improve their skills in processing papaya into value-added products and increase their income,” concluded Farida.**
