Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian Expresses Deep Condolences over the Passing of Najwa Shihab’s Husband
JAKARTA-JAYA NEWS.COM – Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian expressed his deep condolences over the passing of Ibrahim Sjarief Assegaf, the husband of senior journalist Najwa Shihab. The condolences were conveyed directly by the Minister of Home Affairs as a form of empathy and personal closeness to the deceased’s family.
“On behalf of myself, my family, and also the Ministry of Home Affairs, I express my deepest condolences to Mbak Nana and the extended family for the passing of the deceased,” said the Minister of Home Affairs at Najwa Shihab’s funeral home, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/20/2025).
The Minister of Home Affairs recalled his closeness to Najwa Shihab which had been established for quite a long time, including in various activities in the field. One of the moments he remembered was during the Surabaya bomb tragedy in 2018. At that time, he was still on duty at the Police and Najwa Shihab was carrying out her role as a journalist. Najwa immediately conducted interviews with the victims and made a special report on the incident.
“I provided a lot of assistance, access to him to provide transparent news to the public,” he said.
As a friend, the Minister of Home Affairs admitted that he felt deep sorrow. He also prayed for the deceased to get the best place in the sight of God Almighty and asked for strength for the family left behind. “I know Mbak Nana is a strong lady, I’m sure God willing she can be strong, and of course I also pray for the deceased,” he said.
Based on the information gathered, Ibrahim Sjarief died while being treated at the National Brain Center Hospital (RSPON) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
