Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Confers the Title of National Hero to KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur)
JAKARTA-JAYA NEWS.COM – President of the Republic of Indonesia, H. Prabowo Subianto, officially conferred the title of National Hero of 2025 on the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).
This determination was stipulated in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 116/TK/2025, dated November 6, 2025, and was presented during a state ceremony at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (11/10), coinciding with the commemoration of Heroes’ Day.
According to a live broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, the award was received directly by Nyai Hj. Sinta Nuriyah Wahid, wife of the late Gus Dur, with deep emotion and pride.
Gus Dur, the Only Figure from Jombang This Year
The Head of the Jombang Regency Social Services Office, Agung Hariadi, confirmed that Gus Dur is the only figure from Jombang to be designated a National Hero this year.
“Of the three figures from Jombang proposed—KH. Abdurrahman Wahid, KH. Yusuf Hasyim, and KH. Bisri Syansuri—only Gus Dur was designated through the Presidential Decree,” he explained on Monday (November 10).
Jombang Regent H. Warsubi also expressed his high appreciation for the President’s decision. Based on Letter from the Presidential Military Secretary Number R-186/KSN/SM/GT.02.00/11/2025, ten national figures were awarded the title of National Hero this year.

With this designation, KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) is officially recognized as a National Hero from Jombang Regency.
Jombang now boasts four national heroes: KH. Hasyim Asy’ari, KH. Abdul Wahid Hasyim, KH. Abdul Wahab Hasbullah, and KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).
Gus Sentot: “This Presidential Decision is Very Appropriate and Deserving”
The Chairman of the Jombang Democratic Party Branch and Deputy Chairman of the Jombang Regency DPRD, H. Syarif Hidayatullah, ST, M.St (Gus Sentot), expressed his high appreciation to President Prabowo.
“Awarding the title of National Hero to Gus Dur is very appropriate and well-deserved. We all know how Gus Dur fought to defend humanity and maintain the integrity of the nation,” Gus Sentot emphasized.
He added that Gus Dur’s exemplary life should inspire the younger generation in building a peaceful and just nation.
“We need figures like Gus Dur in this era—figures who are able to foster diversity and maintain unity,” he said firmly.
The Chairman of the JIK-NA Community in Jombang Regency, Ust. H. Muhtazuddin, SH, also expressed his pride and gratitude.
“We, as residents of Jombang and Nahdliyin, are certainly grateful for this award. Gus Dur belongs not only to Nahdlatul Ulama, but to the entire Indonesian nation,” he said.
This award is a form of state recognition for KH. Abdurrahman Wahid’s immense service as a symbol of pluralism, democracy, and humanity.
