FSPPI: DO NOT BUILD THE FILM INDUSTRY ON LEGAL UNCERTAINTY FOR WORKERS

JAKARTA-JAYANEWS.COM — The Federation of Indonesian Film Workers Unions (FSPPI) is urging the government to immediately establish integrated regulations to ensure legal protection for film workers. The call was made during an audience with the Director of Film, Music, and Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Irini Dewi Wanti, S.S., M.SP., on August 18, 2026.

Led by Chairman Dr. Rizal Djibran, FSPPI stressed that labor issues must be central to film industry development. Certainty in employment, wage payments, working hours, OHS, and social security are vital for the industry’s sustainability.

“A film is not just what appears on screen. There are thousands of workers behind it. They deserve legal certainty,” said Rizal.

Through a study by the FSPPI Research Institute, 16 legal gaps were identified, ranging from contract status and wage systems to worker protection across the production chain.

FSPPI argues that film policy cannot be sectoral. It requires cross-ministerial coordination between Culture, Manpower, Creative Economy, Education, and Communication & Digital.

“What we seek is not regulation that burdens the industry. We want a system that provides certainty for workers, production houses, investors, and the government,” Rizal concluded, on Thursday August 20, 2026.*
