Increasing Community Participation, KKP and POKMASWAS in Marine and Fisheries Surveillance in Indramayu
Indramayu, Jaya News.Com – The government continues to strive to increase public participation and understanding in monitoring marine and fisheries resources. One such effort is through the development and capacity building of Community Monitoring Groups (POKMASWAS), organized by the Jakarta Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance Base (PSDKP), Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The activity took place in the hall of the Indramayu Regency Marine and Fisheries Office and was attended by POKMASWAS members from various coastal areas in Indramayu Regency. This program aims to strengthen the role of the community in preserving marine and fisheries resources through participatory monitoring in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The event was attended by Ahmad Dwi Kurniawan, Head of the Jakarta PSDKP Base; Sudarto, a representative of the West Java Province Marine and Fisheries Management Unit (UPTD); Rahmat Yulianto, Head of the Indramayu Regency Marine and Fisheries Agency; Asep Ruhiyat, Head of the Cirebon Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance Unit (Satwas SDKP); and members of the Community Monitoring Group (POKMASWAS).
In his presentation, Sudarto explained that coaching community monitoring groups is crucial for increasing their capacity to carry out surveillance functions in waters and fisheries cultivation areas in Indramayu Regency.
According to him, this activity was carried out to strengthen the knowledge and skills of POKMASWAS members so that they understand their duties, authorities, and proper monitoring mechanisms. With a better understanding, the community can play an active role in monitoring various activities that have the potential to damage marine and fisheries resources without violating applicable regulations.
“Through this activity, we want to revitalize the role of the Community Monitoring Groups (POKMASWAS) so they better understand their duties and functions. They are expected to be able to carry out supervision in accordance with applicable provisions and regulations to prevent errors in carrying out their duties in the field,” said Sudarto.
Furthermore, he hopes this activity will improve the quality of the human resources of POKMASWAS members, both in terms of knowledge and skills. Furthermore, the existence of community monitoring groups is also expected to become strategic partners for the government in preserving marine ecosystems and fisheries.
With increased community participation in monitoring, it is hoped that the sustainability of marine and fisheries resources in Indramayu Regency will be further protected. Synergy between the government and the community is considered key to realizing sustainable management of marine and fisheries resources for the welfare of coastal communities and future generations.
