KOMPI Takes to the Streets Again, Thousands Surround Indramayu Hall to Reject Pantura Fishpond Revitalization

INDRAMAYU, Jaya News.Com – The Indramayu Coastal Community Coalition (KOMPI) held another large-scale demonstration to reject the Pantura fishpond revitalization project initiated by the central government through the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The demonstration took place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) until completion.

The demonstration was attended by thousands of KOMPI members from four coastal districts in Indramayu Regent.

The protesters voiced their opposition to the Pantura Fishpond Revitalization project, including urging the cancellation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indramayu Regent and the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Number: 01/DPJB/KKP/NIK/VI/2025.

The protesters gathered at the Cimanuk Culinary Parking Lot, then proceeded to the Indramayu Hall as the center of the demonstration.

KOMPI believes the shrimp pond revitalization project has the potential to harm coastal communities, particularly regarding the alleged takeover of cultivated land that has long been a source of livelihood for residents. They also believe the local government is unresponsive to community aspirations, as evidenced by the lack of response to previous demonstrations or the sent letter requesting an audience.

The demonstration was conducted peacefully, with aspirations openly conveyed to the local government. KOMPI previously held a similar demonstration on April 2, 2026, involving approximately 3,000 people, but to date has not received the desired response.

The protest coordinator, Hatta Bintang, stated in a notification letter addressed to the Indramayu Police Chief that this demonstration represents a form of struggle by coastal communities to ensure their voices are heard and addressed by the government.

KOMPI hopes that through this follow-up action, both the local and central governments will open a space for dialogue and reconsider policies deemed detrimental to coastal communities.
