Grave Visit “What is the Importance of Chairil Anwar for Indonesia” with TISI at Karet Bivak Public Cemetery

JAKARTA-JAYANEWS.COM—To commemorate the passing of the great poet and poet Chairil Anwar—a literary pioneer of the ’45 Generation—the TISI (Indonesian Literature Inspiration Park) Literary Community will again hold a grave visit, discussion, and poetry reading at Chairil Anwar’s grave at Karet Bivak Public Cemetery in Central Jakarta, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM WIB.

This was stated by Muhammad Octavianus Masheka, Chair of the TISI (Indonesian Literature Inspiration Park) Literary Community, to reporters in Jakarta on Friday morning (April 24, 2026).

“Why does TISI hold this event every year? Because TISI is fully aware that as a literary generation, we must not forget the history of Indonesian literature, or the red jas,” said Bung Octa—his nickname—who recently received an award from the Language Development and Fostering Agency of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for his 40 years of outstanding service and dedication to Indonesian literature.

According to him, in 2026, TISI, in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Culture Office and the Central Jakarta Culture Sub-Department, will again hold a grave visit to commemorate the passing of Chairil Anwar, a prominent Indonesian poet and poet known as a pioneer of the ’45 Generation of literature.

“TISI, as a literary community engaged in literary literacy, discussions, workshops, and literary book publishing, has collaborated with the Jakarta Provincial Culture Office and the Culture Sub-Department for the past five years,” he said.

The “What is the Importance of Chairil Anwar for Indonesia” grave pilgrimage will feature speakers such as Maman S Mahayana, Ewith Bahar, and Harry Tjahyono, moderated by Remmy Novaris DM and hosted by Rissa Churia.

“There will also be a presence from Evawani Allissa, the only daughter of the great poet and poet Chairil Anwar, and a welcoming speech from Andri Ferdian, Head of the Central Jakarta City Administration’s Cultural Sub-Department,” he added.

In addition to the pilgrimage and literary discussion, there will also be a poetry reading parade—especially poems by the great poet and poet Chairil Anwar—featuring performances by Jose Rizal Manua (poet and declaimer), Imam Ma’arif (poet and declaimer), Nanang R Supriyatin (poet and poet), Kurnia Effendi (poet and poet), and Dyah Kencono Puspito Dewi (poet and poet).

Then there are Swary Utami Dewi (poet and poetry reader), Rintis Mulya (poet and poetry reader), Mustafa Ismail (poet and poetry reader), Indar (poetry reader), and Mia Aulia (poetry reader). (***)
