This message flowed strongly from the Indramayu Regency Education Office Hall, during the important event “Coordination and Development of PKBM Principals throughout Indramayu Regency,” held on Thursday afternoon (October 23, 2025), from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM WIB. This meeting was not merely a routine, but a moment to affirm the commitment that determines the life and death of non-formal educational institutions.
The Real Presence and Full Support of PKBM Al-Zaytun
Amidst calls for consistency, the presence of PKBM Al-Zaytun drew attention. This institution demonstrated its full commitment, represented by two administrators, Abdul Karim, S.Mn., M.Pd. and Giarto, S.Pd.
Al-Zaytun’s support for the Education Office’s program was emphasized not only through their physical presence, but also through concrete actions. Even before the training began, they had fulfilled their administrative obligations, submitting complete documents to the Early Childhood Education (PAUD) and PNF (National Early Childhood Education) Division, which were received directly by Yudi (Head of the PAUD PNF Section). This gesture sent a strong signal: professionalism is key.
The Firm Voice of the Office Head: Consistency, Regeneration, or Closure
The Head of the Indramayu Education Office, Dr. Dr. H. Caridin, S.Pd., M.Sc., opened the coaching session with appreciation, but quickly moved on to crucial points that needed to be addressed. The essence of his guidance was sharp and clear: Consistency and regeneration are the keys to the sustainability and survival of a PKBM.
“The Head of PKBM must have a strong commitment to implementing non-formal education and assisting the Education Office,” emphasized Dr. Caridin.
He did not deny that inconsistency remains an issue, with some PKBM organizers considered merely side activities. The consequences are serious:
Threat of Closure: PKBM operational permits, which are valid for five years, will not be extended for institutions that are inactive in learning or neglect their permits.
Absolute Regeneration: Leadership must be renewed to ensure the institution does not stagnate and is able to adapt to changing times.
Improving Image and Data: The “big homework” for the reputation of Indramayu’s Community Learning Centers (PKBM) is resolving past legal issues. The Head of the Education Office also urged the maintenance of neat and accurate data to anticipate surprise verifications.
Behind all these affirmations lies a lofty mission: to resolve the problem of out-of-school children (ATS), which still numbers around 23,000 in Indramayu. This is a colossal challenge that can only be overcome through the collaboration and commitment of all PKBMs.
Towards Administrative Quality and Professionalism
The Head of Early Childhood Education and PNF, Aam Aminah, S.Ag., who recently took over after previously working at the Tourism Office, complemented these directives with a focus on technical aspects and institutional quality.
She encouraged each PKBM to improve the quality of its graduates by participating in the Academic Skills Test (TKA), an important pathway for students to continue on to higher education.
“In 2025, only four PKBM participated in the TKA program. We hope that by 2026, all PKBM will participate in this activity,” said Aam Aminah, targeting a drastic increase.
In addition, the Head of Aam also emphasized the rules of the game for professionalism:
Each PKBM is encouraged to have one qualified operator to ensure data accuracy.
Strict Prohibition:
PKBM are prohibited from taking students from other formal educational institutions, to maintain the integrity of the education system and avoid harm to students.
Personnel Regulations: Civil Servants (ASN) are not permitted to serve as Heads of PKBM, ensuring focus and professionalism in leadership.
This coordination has sounded the drums of change. The Indramayu Education Office has now taken a firm stance: PKBM must be managed professionally, consistently, and oriented towards quality improvement.
The ultimate goal is one: to educate the nation’s children, in line with the vision of lifelong education.
