Madrasah Children’s Literacy: Darul Muqomah Students Demonstrate Awareness of the Importance of Reading
INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – To commemorate International Literacy Day 2025, the Darul Muqomah Islamic Boarding School (MDTU) in Karang Tengah Block, Leuwigede Village, Widasari District, Indramayu Regency, held a “Madrasah Children’s Literacy” activity on Friday (September 19, 2025). The event featured storytelling and literacy outreach aimed at instilling the habit of reading as an important part of preparing the future of the younger generation.
The activity was a collaboration between the Darul Muqomah Foundation, the S16 Library, and the Community Literacy Volunteers (Relima) of the National Library of Indonesia. This collaboration is clear evidence that literacy awareness is growing not only in public schools but also within the madrasah environment.
The Head of MDTU Darul Muqomah, Casyanto, S.Pd., expressed his gratitude for the event. “We are grateful to be visited by the literacy movement in celebration of International Literacy Day. I hope the students gain new experiences and knowledge from this activity,” he said.
Madrasah teacher, Lisa Rosaliana, also expressed her appreciation. “Events like this are excellent and deserve ongoing collaboration to continue to foster students’ interest in reading,” she said.
Ahmad Khoeri, a member of the Indramayu Community Literacy Volunteers (Relima) and manager of the S16 Library, emphasized the importance of making reading a habit as a gateway to knowledge. “Instilling good habits like reading is very important, especially since reading is an obligation to broaden knowledge,” he said.
The students also radiated joy. Erlin Anora Calista, one of the students participating in the activity, expressed her enthusiasm. “I’m happy to be able to read with my friends and I’m excited to welcome the arrival of a reading space like this,” she said enthusiastically.
Similarly, another student, Eka Ramdani, encouraged his fellow students to continue diligently reading and reciting the Quran. “Students must be self-sufficient by diligently reciting the Quran and reading about science and technology,” he said.
Through Madrasah Children’s Literacy, MDTU Darul Muqomah emphasized that a reading culture is an important foundation in developing a generation of students who are not only religious, but also intelligent, critical, and ready to face the changing times.*
