Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini left a political and spiritual testament known as “Wasiyat-e-Iman” or Imam Khomeini’s Testament which contains his last message if he dies or falls. First, his message is to always defend Islam and the revolution. Because for him the Islamic Republic of Iran and the teachings of Shia Islam are the basis of government. Second, the Iranian people must continue to fight oppression and colonization. Especially the imperialism of the United States and Israel.
Imam Khomeini also advised Muslims to continue to unite and be vigilant against slander. Because sectarian issues, politics or Western culture can divide the unity of the people which must be maintained together. So that the support of the scholars and the Wilayat Al Faqih system in leading the country spiritually and politically. In fact, politics should not be prioritized over spirituality which is the guardian of human ethics, morals and morals so that they remain noble.
One of the famous quotes from Imam Khomeini that is still remembered by many people – including Muslims outside Iran is: “As long as you are united and follow Islam, there is no power in this world that can defeat you”. The reality is that Muslims themselves are not united and have almost no solidarity and concern for the struggle being carried out by other groups of Muslims to uphold the Islamic religion. So that the struggle of Muslims seems to not get support from other Muslims, due to uncontrollable egocentricity.
For example, the internal conflict in Yemen until a civil war occurred in 2014 and worsened in 2015. In fact, the problem was an armed group from the North (Shia Zaidi) who rebelled against the central government. Until they controlled the capital city of Sana’a. The Yemeni government led by President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi who is now forced to be in exile – is supported by a Saudi Arabian-led military coalition. This Saudi Arabian coalition has intervened since 2015 to restore the government of Abdrabbul Mansur Hadi and prevent Iranian influence through the Houthis.
Apart from that, Iran itself is accused of supporting the Houthis militarily and logistically, although Iran has denied any involvement in the conflict.
Then other separatist and militant groups emerged, such as the Southern Transitional Council (STC) which wants to separate South Yemen and the Al Qaeda and ISIS groups which are said to have taken advantage of the chaotic situation. According to the UN, this conflict has caused the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Because millions of people have been displaced, there is severe hunger and the infrastructure has been destroyed very badly.
The will of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini is clearly not only spiritual, but also geopolitical which can be used as a comparison and study material including his fundamental attitude towards the West, while the conflict in Yemen reflects how fragile the unity of Muslims is on a regional and global scale which is very much expected to be able to face together conflicts of interest and influence that can weaken Muslims as guides to the path of rahmatan lil alamin. And Islam strongly believes and is convinced that every human being is actually the khalifatullah – God’s representative – on earth. So it would be very naive to cause riots or damage on earth.**
