Gejrot tofu is a delicious and popular traditional culinary dish from Cirebon, West Java.
Gejrot tofu is fried tofu drizzled with a sweet and spicy sauce, usually made from sweet soy sauce, cayenne pepper, garlic, and other ingredients.
Here’s a simple recipe for Cirebon Gejrot tofu:
Ingredients needed:
– 4-6 slices white tofu
– 1/4 cup sweet soy sauce
– 2-3 cayenne peppers, finely sliced
– 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
– 1 tsp brown sugar
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/4 tsp flavoring (optional)
– 2 tbsp water
– Cooking oil for frying the tofu
The method is very easy and simple:
1. Fry the white tofu until golden brown, drain.
2. Mix the sweet soy sauce, cayenne pepper, garlic, brown sugar, salt, and flavoring (if using) in a bowl.
3. Add water to the bowl and stir well.
4. Pour the sweet and spicy sauce over the fried tofu.
5. Serve the tahu gejrot warm.
Tip: To make the tahu gejrot taste even more sensational:
– You can adjust the spiciness of the sauce by adding or reducing the amount of cayenne pepper.
– If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can add a little cornstarch or wheat flour to the sauce.
