Prof. Dr. Sutan Nasomal Suggests President Prabowo Establish an Asphalt Factory Using Rubber and Plastic Waste, Effective and Efficient
JAKARTA-JAYA NEWS.COM – “It would be great if the central and regional governments synergized to produce asphalt from plastic and rubber waste, which is not only environmentally friendly but also requires low production costs and is cost-effective, ensuring cleanliness in every city, while asphalt production in every region is handled by companies at the central state-owned enterprise (BUMN) and regional government-owned enterprises (BUMD). This would be very beneficial for the central government, BUMN, provincial governments, city governments, and district governments,” said Prof. Dr. Sutan Nasomal, SH, MH, an international law expert and economist, while presenting his input to President Prabowo Subianto during a dialogue with editors-in-chief of online print media at his office at the Merdeka Party headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (October 23, 2025) via cell phone.
He added that converting plastic waste and rubber tire waste into asphalt must be realized because it can improve road quality.
“The supply of plastic waste throughout the city is sufficient to establish an asphalt industry using plastic and tire waste. Therefore, the President of the Republic of Indonesia must collaborate with experts, Indonesian citizens, and companies,” added Prof. Sutan Nasomal.
Using plastic and tire waste together with asphalt creates stronger, more durable asphalt, making it less prone to loosening or damage when exposed to heat or rain. The asphalt surface creates a softer, less slippery surface for all types of vehicles.
The program of processing plastic and tire waste with liquid asphalt is certainly cost-effective because it eliminates the need for expensive chemical mixtures.
Therefore, PROF. DR. KH. SUTAN Nasomal, S.H., M.H., urged the Indonesian government to initiate a plastic and tire waste industry to produce high-quality asphalt for all city and village roads.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia, together with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), and waste processing experts, will certainly be able to realize a more advanced Indonesia by transforming plastic and tire waste into world-class asphalt. This will then employ hundreds of thousands of skilled workers. The global demand for quality asphalt is never low because good roads facilitate the development of a world-class economy.
“Hopefully, the first year of the President of the Republic of Indonesia carrying out this significant task will lead to even greater success and Indonesia’s continued progress,” he concluded.***
