JOMBANG-JAYANEWS.COM – Hundreds of santri and local residents around Pondok Pesantren Khoiriyah Hasyim in Seblak, Jombang, East Java, received free health and eye examinations on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The event was organized by the Gusdurian network as part of the Jagat Festival, a two-day gathering held in the lead-up to the 35th Congress (Muktamar) of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Jombang.
Free health services were provided by the Javanese Christian Church (GKJW) in collaboration with Mojowarno Christian Hospital (RSKM). Visitors could have their general health and eyesight checked at no cost, including those feeling unwell or fatigued.
The event brought together Gusdurian members from across Indonesia. Participants came from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, united to strengthen bonds of brotherhood.
Rev. Natael Hermawan Prianto, M.B.A., Chairman of the GKJW General Assembly, said the initiative was part of GKJW’s support for the series of events leading to NU’s 35th Congress.
“Through Mojowarno Christian Hospital, GKJW is taking part by providing free health checkups and treatment for those who are sick, exhausted, or experiencing health issues,” said Rev. Natael.
He expressed hope that such activities would further strengthen ties between GKJW, the Gusdurian network, and communities of different faiths and ethnicities across Indonesia.
Solikhin, coordinator of the health checkup, said the goal was to encourage santri and local residents to be more proactive about their health.
“This free health and eye checkup is meant to encourage santri and the surrounding community to get their health and eyesight checked,” Solikhin said. He added that many santri often neglect health checkups due to busy study and religious routines.
Solikhin also thanked GKJW and RSK Mojowarno for their support. Organizers targeted 100 to 150 participants for the free services.
Participants were enthusiastic, saying they appreciated being able to check their health without any cost.
The Jagat Festival carried the theme “Religion for the Universe: Destroying Nature Is Equal to Destroying Humanity.” The two-day event ran smoothly thanks to support from the Gusdurian network, interfaith leaders, and health institutions including RSK Mojowarno.**
