Beyond Limits, Inspiring the World: Patrick Winata and the Spirit of Hijrah to Become Better
By: Ali Aminulloh
Every human being has limits.
However, history always records those who dare to transcend those limits.
Not because they are stronger than others, but because they have the confidence, discipline, and courage to keep going when many would rather give up.
That spirit was strongly felt when Patrick Winata, Founder of ELV8 Clinic and Strength and Conditioning Coach, appeared as one of the speakers at the Islamic New Year Commemoration of 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri at the Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin Mosque, Ma’had Al Zaytun, Tuesday (June 16, 2026).
Amidst the dominant discussions on unity, education, food security, and national development, Patrick presented a different perspective yet remained relevant to the event’s main theme: how major change always begins with self-change.
Through his life story and personal experiences, he encouraged participants to understand that hijrah (migration) is not just a change of location or a New Year’s Eve celebration, but rather a journey to become a better person day by day.
A World Record That Started with a Dream
Patrick Winata is known as an active figure in the world of health, fitness, and human capacity development.
However, in his presentation, he didn’t just talk about muscles, sports, or fitness.
He talked about dreams.
About the courage to set seemingly impossible goals.
And about the consistency in pursuing them.
He shared his experiences involved in various humanitarian activities and the international achievements that earned him recognition through the Guinness World Records.
According to him, every great achievement always begins with the belief that something that seems difficult is still possible.
Many people have dreams.
But only a few have the courage to pursue them to completion.
Hijrah is a Change of Self
In the context of the Islamic New Year, Patrick encouraged participants to understand hijrah more broadly.
Hijrah is not just a historical event that occurred more than fourteen centuries ago.
Hijrah is a spirit of change that must continue to live in every human being’s life.
According to him, everyone has room to become better.
Be more disciplined.
Be healthier.
Be more productive.
Be more caring towards others.
And be more useful to society.
Therefore, the momentum of 1 Muharram should be an opportunity to conduct self-evaluation and set a new direction in life.
Not only ask what has been achieved, but also ask what can be improved.
Discipline as the Key to Success
One of the main messages conveyed by Patrick is the importance of discipline.
He believes that success is not the result of luck alone.
Success is born from small habits carried out consistently over a long period of time.
According to him, many people want to achieve big results but are reluctant to go through the necessary process.
However, every achievement requires commitment, patience, and discipline.
The same applies to nations.
A nation that wants to progress must have a culture of discipline.
A society that wants to develop must value hard work.
And young people who want to succeed must make it a habit to continuously learn and improve themselves.
Building Resilient People
Patrick also emphasized the importance of developing mental toughness in a constantly changing world.
According to him, today’s young generation lives in an era full of challenges and opportunities.
Technological developments open up many new opportunities, but also bring various pressures never experienced by previous generations.
Therefore, in addition to possessing academic and technical skills, young people must also possess mental fortitude.
They must be able to face failure.
Able to bounce back from adversity.
And able to continue moving forward despite facing various obstacles.
In his view, mental toughness is one of the main assets for achieving future success.
From Individual Change to National Change
Although speaking from a self-development perspective, Patrick Winata connected his message to the major theme raised in the commemoration of 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri.
According to him, a great nation is built by individuals who continuously improve themselves.
Strong unity is born from people of good character.
National independence is born from a productive society.
National progress is born from a disciplined generation with a vision for the future.
Therefore, true national change always begins with personal change.
When individuals change for the better, families will improve.
When families improve, communities will be stronger.
As we become stronger, the nation will progress.
Becoming the Best Version of Yourself
Towards the end of his presentation, Patrick Winata encouraged all participants to use the Islamic New Year as a momentum to build their personal qualities.
He reminded them that everyone has great potential that often remains untapped.
What is needed is the courage to begin, the willingness to continue learning, and the discipline to persist even when the process is not easy.
From the podium at the Commemoration of 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah at Al Zaytun, Patrick delivered a simple yet meaningful message:
That life is not a race against others.
Life is a journey to become the best version of yourself.
And as the true meaning of hijrah (migration), big changes always begin with one small step taken with confidence and sincerity.
Because ultimately, those who are able to change themselves for the better are those who will be able to provide greater benefits to society, the nation, and humanity.*
