The Indramayu MUI Fatwa Commission Declares Ibu Desi’s Teachings Deviant, Demands Suspension and Investigation
INDRAMAYU-JAYANEWS.COM – The Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Indramayu Regency has officially declared that the teachings preached by Ibu Desi deviate from Islamic teachings.
This decision is outlined in the Decree of the Indramayu MUI Fatwa Commission Number 02/F-MUI-IMY/VII/2026 concerning the Spread of Ibu Desi’s Teachings, issued on July 24, 2026 CE / 09 Shafar 1448 AH.
In its deliberations, the MUI assessed that the teachings had circulated within the community and caused unrest. They were also deemed necessary to examine and review them based on the Quran, the Sunnah, and the principles of authoritative scholars.
“Considering the report of the investigation results of the Kroya District MUI and the Kroya District KUA Counselor on July 23, 2026, which revealed an interpretation of the Quran that is not based on correct interpretation principles, as well as a denial of the status of the hadith as a source of Islamic teachings,” the letter reads.
Following deliberation and review on July 23, 2026, the Indramayu Regency MUI Fatwa Commission DECIDES:
First, that the teachings conveyed by Ms. Desi deviate from Islamic teachings.
Second, it recommends that the authorities:
1. Cease and close all activities disseminating these teachings and similar teachings in Indramayu Regency;
2. Conduct further investigations into possible violations of the law, including allegations of fraud and other criminal acts.
Third, it urges the entire community to maintain peace, not be easily provoked, and to maintain social order.
This decree was signed by the Chairman of the Fatwa Commission, KH. Ibnu Ubaidillah Bilal, and Secretary, KH. Mulkil Huda. The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Indramayu Regency, KH. Syairozi Bilal, and Secretary General, H. Adlan Daie, SH, were also present.
Copies of this letter were sent to the Regent of Indramayu, the Chairman of the Indramayu Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), the Chief of the Indramayu Police, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, the Commander of the 0616/Indramayu Military District, and the Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Office for Indramayu Regency.**
