“United in Good”:
Two Decades of Goodness Within the Framework of the Al-Zaytun Trilogy of Awareness
(Reflection on International Good Deeds Day, April 14)
By: Ali Aminulloh
Every April 14th, the world momentarily sets aside selfishness to celebrate *Good Deeds Day*. In 2026, the commemoration feels even more sacred as it marks two decades of a universal humanitarian movement. With the central theme “United in Goodness” and the reflection “20 Years of Doing Good from the Heart,” the world is invited to look back: to what extent has goodness been a unifying force amidst the turmoil of the times?
For the Ma’had Al-Zaytun family, this momentum is more than just a calendar event. It serves as a large mirror to reflect the **Trilogy of Awareness** initiated by Sheikh AS Panji Gumilang, which converges on a single point of devotion: *Educating and Building Solely in Worship of Allah SWT.*
Historical Roots and Global Anxiety
The Day of Good Deeds was initiated in 2007 out of existential anxiety. Initiated in Israel by the non-profit organization *Ruach Tova* under the initiative of philanthropist Shari Arison, this movement emerged as an antithesis to the increasing individualism in modern society.
April 14th was chosen for its religious and political neutrality, making it a universal language that has now spread to more than 110 countries. Its goal is clear: to raise collective awareness, strengthen social cohesion, and form lasting habits of good deeds.
Dissecting Goodness through the Trilogy of Awareness
At Al-Zaytun, this narrative of goodness is deeply dissected through three pillars of awareness that make it more than just an ordinary social action:
1. Philosophical Awareness: Doing Good from the Heart
This year’s theme, “Doing Good from the Heart,” is the spirit of Philosophical Awareness. It emphasizes that goodness is not just an annual trend, but rather a “Main Practice.” Philosophically, helping others means honoring humanity itself. Someone with this awareness understands that their existence is to be a blessing. Goodness born “from the heart” is sincere, stable, and not dependent on worldly praise.
2. Ecological Awareness: Goodness That Transcends Species Boundaries
Universal goodness should not stop at humans alone. Through Ecological Awareness, Al-Zaytun teaches that doing good means caring for the universe. Consistency over time proves that building a civilization should not be at the expense of the earth. Planting trees, maintaining sanitation, and respecting ecosystems are forms of ongoing charity for the future. This is a tangible manifestation of collective happiness that nourishes the body and soul of the community.
3. Social Awareness: United in Good
The theme “United in Good” is a manifestation of Social Awareness. The April 14th Movement aims to bridge differences through concrete action. At Al-Zaytun, this is translated into a spirit of togetherness (nahniyah), bearing heavy burdens together, carrying light burdens together. Social awareness breaks down identity barriers, uniting diverse human potential for one goal: inclusive shared prosperity.
20-Year Reflection: Consistency of Worship
These two decades of journey remind us of the journey of global themes: from “Think Good, Speak Good, Do Good” (2022) to “Small Act, Big Impact” (2024). All of these messages have long been ingrained in Al-Zaytun’s motto: “Educating and Building Solely in Worship of Allah SWT.”
This is what sets this movement apart. If the world seeks the “psychological happiness” of endorphins when doing good, Al-Zaytun draws a higher vertical line. **Educating** is the process of planting the seeds of awareness in the mind, and **Building** is the real work of realizing civilization. Everything is done not for the world stage, but as a form of gratitude to the Creator.
Epilogue: Every Day is Good
Two decades of *Global Day of Good Deeds* prove that the world longs for unity. Through the theme “United in Good,” we are reminded that civilization is not built with rhetoric, but with small, consistent actions from the heart.
For Al-Zaytun, every day is April 14th. Every step is education, and every sweat is development. When millions of people unite in philosophical, ecological, and social awareness, a bright world is no longer just a dream, but a reality that we build together under the blessings of Allah SWT.**
