GEDONG DUWUR CULTURAL HERITAGE BUILDING DAMAGED BY VANDALISM DURING FILM FILMS
INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – The Gedong Duwur building, a cultural heritage building designated by the Indramayu Regent’s Decree in 2023, was damaged by vandalism during a feature film shoot at the site. Gedong Duwur is located in Penganjang Village, Sindang District, Indramayu, approximately 700 meters west of the Indramayu Regency Hall, West Java.
Nang Sadewo of Indramayu Historia Indonesia received this information from residents living near the former assistant resident’s building, built in 1866.
According to Nang Sadewo, the vandalism affected the entire front wall of the building, the interior walls, and the doors, which are in their original condition.
“The damage was caused to the building’s walls by smearing them with cement, thus eliminating their historical value,” said Nang Sadewo in a press release on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Meanwhile, Dedy S. Musashi, Head of the Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB) for Indramayu Regency, has reported the vandalism to the Head of the Education and Culture Office and the Head of the Cultural Division of Indramayu Regency.
Dedy deeply regrets the vandalism against the cultural heritage building, which was designated by the Indramayu Regent’s Decree in 2023 and protected by Cultural Heritage Law Number 11 of 2010 concerning Cultural Heritage.
“It’s sad that there are still people who damage cultural heritage buildings simply for their own personal gain,” explained Dedy Musashi.
Dedy considers this act of vandalism to be a violation of the law and extremely detrimental because it destroys the historical value, beauty, and identity of the nation, which should be preserved for future generations.
For your information, Gedong Duwur is the former assistant resident’s residence, built in 1866. This colonial-style building features a distinctive blend of European architecture and flooring imported from Great Britain.
This historic building was designated by the Indramayu Regency Cultural Heritage Expert Team and was designated as a Cultural Heritage Building by the Regent of Indramayu in 2023.**
