October 28th is commemorated as a historic day for the Indonesian nation, because on that date in 1928, Indonesian youths proclaimed the Youth Pledge, a crucial milestone in the struggle for Indonesian independence.
The Youth Pledge is a pledge made by Indonesian youth to unite and fight for the independence and progress of the nation. The pledge consists of three points:
1. We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one motherland, Indonesia.
2. We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, the Indonesian nation.
3. We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, uphold the language of unity, Indonesian.
Every year, Youth Pledge Day is commemorated with various activities and events to commemorate the spirit and values embodied in the Youth Pledge.
