Acting Indramayu Remains Legitimate, Because the Central PWI Chairperson is Legitimate and Recognized by the State
INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – The Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Hendri Ch Bangun (HCB), provided clarification regarding the revocation of the suspension of the West Java PWI leadership. According to him, the revocation was not related to the status of acting PWI leaders at the regency/city level, including the Acting PWI Leadership in Indramayu Regency.
“The Acting Indramayu Leadership Remains Legitimate, because I am the legitimate and state-recognized General Chairperson of the Central PWI,” HCB emphasized when contacted by the media on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Therefore, the suspension of PWI leaders at the regency/city level, including the Indramayu Regency leadership chaired by Dedi Musashi, remains in effect, and the new decree of the Acting PWI Leadership in Indramayu, chaired by Ihsan Mahfudz, is considered valid and enforceable.
According to HCB, the revocation of the West Java PWI leadership is an internal matter at the provincial level and does not affect the existence of the Acting PWI Decrees at the district/city level.
He explained that the revocation was carried out as part of the organizational evaluation and restructuring process in preparation for the PWI Association Congress at the end of August.
“We want to ensure that the West Java PWI can operate in accordance with applicable rules and regulations,” he added.
Furthermore, the Central PWI is committed to continuing to support and foster PWIs at the provincial and district/city levels.
“We will continue to collaborate with PWIs throughout Indonesia to improve the quality of journalism and the welfare of journalists,” said HCB.
With this clarification, the Central PWI hopes to provide certainty and confidence to all PWI members in Indonesia. The Central PWI also encourages all journalists to continue to cooperate and synergize in carrying out their journalistic duties professionally and with integrity.
Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of the Indramayu PWI, Ihsan Mahfudz, stated that his organization did not feel automatically suspended because the decree he received was from the General Chairman of the PWI, not from the Acting Chairman of the West Java PWI.
“Our decree comes from the central government, not from the Acting Chairman of the West Java PWI,” explained Icank, as he is familiarly known.
Regarding the statement by the former Chairman of the Indramayu PWI, Dedi Musashi, who has been suspended, Icank hopes that all PWI members, especially those in Indramayu, will not be provoked by the Chairman’s statement.
“Please do so, because anyone who goes against the Central PWI policy faces the risk of having their membership revoked,” Icank concluded.*
