The United States’ Political, Economic, and Cultural Annexation of Venezuela

It is clear that the United States’ annexation of Venezuela has several implications for various other countries, especially for the United States’ competitors facing a superpower with enormous ambitions for world domination.
For Russia itself, this challenge—as a strategic ally—is clearly felt to be in the United States’ backyard. Therefore, the US annexation of Venezuela could strengthen Russia’s position in the region and simultaneously increase its influence in Latin America. Therefore, it is natural for Russia to provide economic and military support to Venezuela, including sending military personnel to protect the Maduro government. This stance demonstrates Russia’s readiness not only to defend its interests in the region but also its willingness to open a wider front for conflict in any form.
The US annexation of Venezuela could clearly further worsen relations between the US and Russia, as Russia itself views this highly ambitious superpower’s actions as an attempt to diminish its influence.
Globally, the conflict in Venezuela could become part of a struggle between the Western bloc (the US and its allies) and the China-Russia axis. This could undoubtedly escalate global tensions and impact the stability of the global energy market. An analysis by the Atlantica Institute Nusantara (NUSantara Institute) clearly indicates that Russia will support the Venezuelan government and increase cooperation with other countries that oppose US policies in the region.
Meanwhile, a US annexation of Venezuela would have implications for China. China itself has significant economic interests in Latin America, particularly in Venezuela, as one of China’s largest trading partners. This could threaten to undermine that trade partnership. Furthermore, China and Venezuela are significant buyers of Venezuelan oil. Therefore, a US annexation of Venezuela could disrupt the oil supply, which has been operating smoothly.
Therefore, a US annexation of Venezuela would not only worsen US relations with Russia but also pose an equally serious threat to China. For this reason, China appears to be exploiting the turmoil in Venezuela caused by the United States’ greed to increase its influence in Latin America and strengthen its networks and ties with regional countries to counter US arbitrariness. Although China and Russia have previously established a strong and close strategic partnership, the two countries will stand united in confronting US arrogance in Venezuela.
The impact of the US annexation of Venezuela on other countries—including Indonesia—could be beneficial or detrimental, as has been the case for several countries in the region and beyond. For Indonesia, however small the impact of the US annexation in the region, it could also be exploited to increase its influence. However, the negative impacts must also be monitored and anticipated wisely to prevent Indonesia’s political, economic, or geopolitical impacts, broadly encompassing its culture and national identity in global relations. At the very least, Indonesia should take a firm and appropriate stance in facing the increasingly tense global situation, as it could ignite World War III, ensuring a new world civilization that continues to move toward friction, even a clash of civilizations, as Samuel Huntington feared. Although he wasn’t convinced it was due to ideological or economic differences, it was caused by culture and religion. Or Francis Fukuyama’s thesis, which believes that civilization is characterized by stages of human development in the political, economic, and social spheres. “The End of History and the Last Man,” he argues, argues that liberal democratic civilization is the result of a historical evolutionary process that forces humans to seek the most effective political and economic systems to meet their needs and desires, as expressed by Donald Tramp.
