Unnes Rector, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, Launches the UNNES Higher Education Institute’s Flagship Program (PUI PT)
SEMARANG-JAYA NEWS.COM – Semarang State University (UNNES) is conducting research and development on Indonesian spices and their potential in various fields, such as medicine, culinary arts, cosmetics, and fashion.
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in conjunction with the 2025 Innovation Awards, Unnes Rector, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, inaugurated a new institution titled “Program Unggulan Institut Perguruan Tinggi (PUI PT).”
PUI PT is chaired by Dr. Eka Yuli Astuti, M.A., assisted by Nur Fateah, S.Pd, M.A., and supported by a Research Team led by Prof. Dr. dr. Nugrahaningsih.

He continued, highlighting the main points:
1. Development of Indonesian spices to improve public welfare
2. Spices can be used as raw materials for medicines, culinary arts, cosmetics, and fashion
3. Indonesia has significant potential for spice exports, especially to the international market
4. The government and the public need to work together to improve the quality and quantity of spice production.
5. Research and development are continuously conducted to increase the added value of Indonesian spices
Some examples of spices that have been researched and developed by PUI PT are:
– Green coffee for slimming
– Beetroot for increasing stamina
– Sinamun (cinnamon) for export
– Other spices for medicine and culinary arts
PUI PT currently has a development area in Maluku and will expand to other regions.
“Hopefully, next year, PUI PT will secure cooperation with international companies and the government to increase Indonesian spice exports,” he concluded.**
