Poem for My Country
By: Wari Wicatman
My country, oh my country
Torn, wounded, and devastated
Like an exhausted butterfly
Its wings are broken, it can no longer fly.
Natural disasters strike
Corruption gnaws
Injustice is rampant
People’s hearts are wounded, their souls struggle.
Poverty shackles
Ignorance poisons
Public health is neglected
The future is bleak, hope is fading.
What happened, oh my country?
Why are you like this?
I want to see you smile
Free, independent, and peaceful.
But I believe we can rise again
Together, we will improve
My country, I am here
To support you, always.
We fight corruption, we fight injustice
We protect nature, we protect justice
We educate, we empower
We are healthy, we prosper.
Together, we can make a difference.
My country, I believe in you!
We rise, we move forward.
Towards a better Indonesia.
