Polindra Expresses Condolences: Student Rafting Drownings Were Apparently Outside Campus Activities

INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – Deep sorrow has gripped the academic community of Indramayu State Polytechnic (Polindra). The Head of Academic and Student Affairs at Polindra, Ade Syarif, SE., M.Si., revealed that the incident involving seven students who drowned in the Bangkir rubber dam was not part of a campus activity and did not require prior permission from the supervisor or their superiors at the Polindra Nature Lovers Community (Kompa) campus student unit. The incident was entirely the students’ own initiative.

Ade Syarif also stated that of the seven students, six were Polindra students and one was an outside party.

This statement was made while accompanying the joint search team for victims in the Cimanuk River, Rambatan Kulon Rubber Dam, Lohbener District, Indramayu Regency, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, a day after the seven students drowned in the strong currents of the rubber dam on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

“On behalf of the entire academic community, we express our condolences and condolences for the drowning of two Polindra students who were members of the Nature Lovers Community (KOMPA). Of the seven students involved in the nature lover activity, it needs to be clarified that one of the seven students was not a Polindra student,” said Ade Syarif.

Ade Syarif explained that the students were carrying out the activity on their own initiative without providing information or confirmation to the campus or student organizations, and it was not an activity on behalf of Polindra.

“Because we are on campus, every activity requires permission from the campus, but for this activity, the KOMPA members did not provide information or confirmation to the campus, so we, the campus, were unaware of it,” Ade explained.

Nevertheless, he expressed his deep sorrow over this incident and expressed his appreciation to the joint team from the Indramayu Police, the Indramayu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indramayu Search and Rescue Team, the Indramayu Military District Command (Kodim), and all parties involved in the search for the students.

“We ask for everyone’s prayers for the speedy recovery of the victims,” he said.

“Polindra is still monitoring developments, and a team is also assisting the search process. Hopefully, we will soon receive information that will reassure us all,” added Ade.

Previously, the joint team deployed two rubber boats in this operation, one each from the Indramayu Police’s Water Police Unit and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

“The team is still searching,” said the Head of the Indramayu Police’s Water Police Unit, AKP Asep Suryana.

The SAR elements involved include six personnel from the Indramayu Police’s Water Police Unit, five personnel from Basarnas, two personnel from the Indramayu Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and two personnel from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Tagana).

Of the seven students, five survived: Gelar, Heliyah, Nonik, Mus Ali, and Fatir. Two of their friends who are still missing are Agung and Muhammad Lana Wiratno.**
