Early Marriage: What’s the Solution?
INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – As in a soap opera, at the age of 16, a person is forced to MARRY. Or, they are married because both parties, L and P, ate the forbidden fruit.
This kind of incident is probably not unique. It could also occur in other areas, and it might escape public coverage or social media.
On Sunday, October 5, 2025, due to eating the forbidden fruit, a man, let’s call him L (16 years old), and a woman, let’s call him P (16 years old), were married with the consent of both families. Their marriage was officially registered with the relevant institution.
According to information gathered, L’s mother is working as an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI), while his father passed away several years ago.
P’s mother is also working as a PMI or TKW abroad, while his father is very elderly.
A fundamental question from a humanitarian perspective: is this marriage permitted by the government, and what about the role of religion? Does it also permit it?
There are several places for the community or young married couples to receive guidance, namely:
1. UPTD DP3A, the abbreviation for the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Service, a regional government agency tasked with addressing women’s empowerment and child protection issues in its respective districts. It is the appropriate institution to provide guidance to these married couples.
2. Reproductive Health Information and Communication (IEC) is communication, information, and education regarding the importance of maintaining physical, mental, and social health related to the reproductive system. The goal is to increase public knowledge and awareness about healthy family planning, contraceptive use, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and to improve the quality of life for families and the community as a whole.**
