SDN 1 Leuwigede Holds “Great Children’s Literacy” to Build a Literacy Ecosystem for the Next Generation
INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – To commemorate International Literacy Day 2025, Public Elementary School (SDN) 1 Leuwigede, Widasari District, Indramayu Regency, held an activity titled “Great Children’s Literacy” on Friday morning (September 19, 2025). The event, which began at 9:00 a.m. WIB, featured storytelling and literacy outreach activities as an effort to foster reading interest among students while strengthening the literacy ecosystem within the school environment.
The activity was a collaboration between SDN 1 Leuwigede, the S16 Library, and the Community Literacy Volunteers (Relima) of the National Library of Indonesia. This synergy is expected to encourage the creation of a future generation that enjoys reading, thinks critically, and has broad insights.
The principal of SDN 1 Leuwigede, Mastirah, S.Pd., emphasized the importance of a reading culture as a key to student success. “Students must get used to reading. Becoming a great child requires hard work and enthusiasm, and reading is the key to unlocking the door to knowledge,” she said.
The class teacher, Novi Triyani, S.Pd., enthusiastically welcomed the activity, which she believes can spark children’s curiosity. “Activities like this really motivate students to open their eyes and minds to the vast knowledge and science they can grasp,” she said.
The enthusiasm was also evident from the students, including sixth-grade student Rahiel Maulana, who said he enjoyed the activity, which was different from their daily learning routine. “The activity was fun. I was happy to be able to participate in reading together, telling stories, and playing,” he said.
Ahmad Khoeri, a Community Literacy Volunteer at the National Library of Indonesia, Lokus Indramayu, emphasized that building a literacy ecosystem requires support from all parties. “A literacy ecosystem must be built through collaboration. All parties need to feel called to work together to educate the nation,” he said.
Similarly, Tarkidin, the administrator of the S16 Library, expressed his commitment to continuing to contribute to improving the quality of literacy in Indramayu. “We are committed to being part of the effort to improve the quality of literacy as a real contribution to the nation’s progress,” he concluded.
