The essence of mi’rat is the highest spiritual peak—if not the pinnacle of peaks, a level not attainable by many. It is a process of purifying the soul and strengthening humanity’s connection with the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. Therefore, mi’rat represents a journey from darkness to light, symbolizing the transition from the material world to the spiritual realm, like the transformation of worldly reality into a sacred divine consciousness.

Therefore, the mi’rat event is a sign that humans are truly capable of reaching a certain spiritual level toward the light of God through purity of heart, devotion, and sincerity, along with proven spiritual discipline. The peak of mi’rat is like when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received a direct command from Allah to pray at Sidratul Muntaha. This proves that humans can meet God.

Such is the Isra’ and Mi’rat journey undertaken by the Prophet Muhammad, a spiritual journey—not merely a physical one—representing the highest level of spiritual attainment a human being can achieve.

The Prophet Muhammad’s spiritual journey from this world to the seventh heaven—Sidratul Muntaha—is deeply symbolic, theological, and spiritual. It also encompasses the process of a person’s desire for gratitude, for example, as the culmination of awareness and faith in God, the All-Gracious, All-Merciful, and All-Forgiving, for those who repent and refrain from repeating their past wrongdoings. Therefore, it is logical that repeated wrongdoing will never be forgiven.

Sidratul Muntaha is a place in the seventh heaven, the final limit of the longest journey ever undertaken by a human being of the Prophet’s caliber. Therefore, its symbolic essence and spiritual meaning are profound and profound, and difficult for ordinary humans—other than the Prophet Muhammad—who received blessings, revelation, and special trust as a highly privileged Prophet and Messenger from Allah. This means that subsequent humans will only be able to sniff out what the prophets—not only Muhammad—have accomplished, but also the miracles and abilities of God’s chosen people who received intercession and then spread that intercession to their devout followers.

Sidratul Muntaha is the highest point in the spiritual journey of humans who are able to reach it like the Prophet Muhammad. Even the level of angels is not mentioned in various Bibles, unable to enter Sidratul Muntaha, which has symbolic and spiritual meaning. Essentially, Sidratul Muntaha marks the highest and furthest limit of spiritual attainment, experience, and human knowledge, which can only be achieved and pursued by a person of the caliber of the Prophet Muhammad.

Symbolically, Sidratul Muntaha itself represents the highest achievement of the human soul, approaching the heights of God through total surrender, so that human reason and logic are at a standstill—stopped—and what remains is a heart that surrenders completely to God.

The moment when the Prophet Muhammad directly received commands from Allah suggests that humans are truly capable and able to encounter God directly.

The essence of the Isra’ and Mi’rat itself is a kind of tangible proof of spiritual awareness capable of touching the heavens. Therefore, the Mi’raj, as the culmination of human transformation—possible only by a pure soul—removes all worldly burdens to unite with the All-Light, the Illuminator of the universe. Therefore, in understanding a belief expressed in a sacred phrase, “manunggaling kawulo lan gusti,” due to limitations in understanding and interpretation, the meaning of “manunggaling kawulo lan gusti” cannot be understood as a form of human closeness to the Almighty Creator. Therefore, it must be understood that the Creator cannot be the same or equal to that which is created.

The Isra’ and Mi’raj of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), from a spiritual perspective, reveals the deepest secrets of humanity’s relationship with God. Symbolically, it is a kind of inner journey from a place of darkness to a place of light. Thus, the essence of the Mi’raj is a sign for humanity that every human being possesses the potential—given by God—to reach radiant spiritual peaks.

From a symbolic point of view, the events of Isra’and Mi’raj are a sign of the awakening of the spirit – from good earth to heaven – beyond seven layers of boundaries to reach the peak of the most sacred spiritual journey. And human efforts are only able to smell Sidratul Muntaha’s scent while continuing to peek
dhikr and wirit (recitation of the Qur’an) as a means of conveying prayer.

This is the intercession—the intercession—through requests for forgiveness and prayers to obtain God’s blessings. This includes the spiritual connection between humanity and the prophets, forged in a spiritual bond that is always maintained and nurtured with humility and the belief that God’s mercy is truly greater than mere deeds.*
