Failed to Protest, NU Members in Indramayu Choose to Pray Together for Regional Peace

INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – The voices of their aspirations, originally planned to take to the streets in the form of demonstrations, were ultimately channeled to heaven through prayer. On Monday (September 1, 2025), the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Indramayu branch, along with all NU Autonomous Bodies (Banom) held a peaceful demonstration with istighotsah (recitation of prayer) and joint prayers, praying for the safety of the nation and the victims of demonstrations in various regions.

The prayer was attended by NU Banom officials, including GP Ansor, ISNU, SARBUMUSI, Fatayat NU, IPNU, IPPNU, PMII, Pagarnusa NU, and the Indramayu Regency Student Executive Board (BEM PT NU). It was held in the hall of the PCNU Indramayu Da’wah Building on Monday (September 1, 2025).

Also in attendance were the Chairperson and Chairman of the Indramayu Branch of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the Indramayu Police Chief, AKBP Mochamad Fajar Gemilang, and his staff.

The istighotsah prayer was led by the Chairman of the Syuriyah Branch of the Indramayu NU, KH. A. Baidlowi Bilal, and the Chairperson of the Tanfidziyah Branch of the Indramayu NU, KH Muhammad Mustofa. Hundreds of congregants from various NU elements joined in the prayers, creating a calm and hopeful atmosphere amidst the heated socio-political dynamics.

One of the NU’s branch organizations, the Chairperson of the GP Ansor Branch of Indramayu, Ulin Niam, emphasized that NU chooses a peaceful path as a dignified way to convey aspirations.

“We want the people’s voices to reach us, but in a calming manner, not one that inflames emotions,” Ulin said.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the Fatayat Branch of the Indramayu NU, Ayu Widiyana, conveyed that NU women want to be the calming guard.

“We pray that this country remains safe, and that the victims of the demonstrations are given strength. Change can still be fought for without any casualties,” said Ayu.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indramayu NU PC, KH. M. Mustofa, emphasized NU’s stance on upholding national dignity.

“NU has never been silent when this nation needs a moral voice. Prayer, unity, and calm are the paths we choose to care for Indonesia,” said Kiai Mustofa.

Kiai Mustofa emphasized that this peaceful demonstration with collective prayer is proof that aspirations can be expressed without conflict.

“In Indramayu, NU demonstrated that the path of peace remains relevant and meaningful, because prayers said together can be louder than shouts in the streets,” Kiai Mustofa asserted.

Meanwhile, Indramayu Police Chief, AKBP M. Fajar Gemilang, expressed his appreciation for the activity and stated that his office is ready to accept the aspirations of the NU Indramayu Banom (National Organization for Social Welfare).

“Thank you to the NU Indramayu community, this is very positive. We are ready to accept your aspirations for the sake of regional stability,” he explained.

The event concluded with the reading and signing of demands from the NU Indramayu Banom alliance, which were approved by the Indramayu Police Chief.**
