Solidarity Movement for Indonesian Migrant Workers Victims of the Hong Kong Fire and Victims of Natural Disasters in Indonesia

HONG KONG-JAYA NEWS.COM – The Indonesian Migrant Workers Network (JBMI) expresses its deepest condolences for the massive fire tragedy at Wang Fung Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. This disaster resulted in loss of life, injuries, and significant material and psychological losses for the residents, including Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

At almost the same time, several areas in Indonesia were also hit by floods, causing severe damage and causing suffering for thousands of residents. JBMI expresses its deep concern and extends its full solidarity to all affected communities.

As a manifestation of its concern that transcends geographical boundaries, on Sunday, November 30, 2025, JBMI held a simultaneous prayer vigil in various districts of Hong Kong. This event was attended by thousands of PMI and migrant movement supporters, aimed at praying for the victims of the Tai Po fire and the victims of the flood disaster in Indonesia.

This momentum provided a space for collective strength, affirming that migrant communities always support each other in times of crisis. This activity raised HK$24,200 (approximately IDR 51 million) and will be donated to the victims and their families.

JBMI expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims who lost loved ones. We also express our gratitude for the support and participation of various parties, and hope that all injured, affected, and traumatized victims can recover quickly. JBMI is collaborating with various local and diaspora Indonesians in Hong Kong to raise funds and provide assistance, conduct hospital visits, and provide necessary supplies for the victims. JBMI is also contacting and will visit families in Indonesia, in collaboration with Beranda Migran and the Coordination of Retired Indonesian Migrant Workers (KOPPMI).

In connection with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) presence at the fire disaster site, JBMI encourages the Indonesian government to ensure transparency of information and open data regarding the victims’ identities, medical conditions, and treatment processes. The government is expected to provide fast, accurate, and easily accessible access to information for the families of victims in Indonesia and Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, including through regularly updated official channels. Clarity of information is crucial to avoid confusion, ensure that the rights of Indonesian migrant workers are fulfilled, and provide certainty to families awaiting news.

JBMI also urges the Indonesian and Hong Kong governments to ensure the fulfillment of victims’ rights, including emergency assistance, health and psychosocial support, and legal representation for Indonesian migrant workers affected by the fire.
