Light from Tanjung Jaya:
Al Zaytun Community Service Center Tutors Sow Harmony in the Holy Month
By: Siti Rohmah, S.Pd. (Al Zaytun Community Service Center Tutor)
The sky was clear that afternoon. A gentle breeze swept across the Tanjung Jaya Janggot Block, Gantar, Indramayu. But even brighter were the faces of the mothers who arrived with light steps and hopeful hearts. In the month of Ramadan 1447 H, they gathered not only to socialize, but also to learn how to strengthen their families, the first place where love and life values are instilled.
The Ramadan Safari, themed “family parenting,” brought together students and tutors from Al Zaytun Community Service Center. From 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, the simple space transformed into a space for dialogue, empowerment, and awareness that family is a trust that must be safeguarded together.
The event was opened by the MC, Ms. Khanisah, followed by remarks from the Block Head, Ms. Watiah, a Package C student. The warm atmosphere was immediately palpable. There was no distance between the organizers and the participants. Everyone sat in a circle of togetherness.
Mrs. Siti Rohmah, a tutor at the Al Zaytun Community Learning Center (PKBM), then introduced the programs of the Caring Wives Association (PIP): the Ramadan Safari for family parenting, the PIP library, angklung arts training, and plans for a post-Eid al-Fitr gathering. These programs are not just agendas, but rather an effort to build a more empowered community through strong families.
However, the atmosphere became quieter when Joko Sairan, S.H., M.H., stepped forward to deliver his presentation. He didn’t just speak, but told a story. He told stories about his life’s journey full of trials, about the faith he continually nurtured, and finally, he was able to earn his master’s degree.
He reminded everyone that life’s trials never come without God’s permission. Problems are not a reason to give up, but rather a call to draw closer. “Don’t wallow in despair,” he advised. Surrender yourself, pray more, work hard, and believe that God’s help is always near. Allah knows the best time to help His servants, even opening the way from unexpected directions.
Several mothers nodded slowly. Some had tears in their eyes. Perhaps they were remembering their own trials in life.
The next session featured Ms. Umi Umutiah, M.S.Psi. Her topic was the legal basis of marriage and a harmonious, loving, and compassionate family. But what made this session lively was the open discussion. The mothers no longer just listened, but shared.
Some asked about communication with their partners. Others complained about differing parenting styles. Others expressed economic pressures that often trigger arguments. They all expressed their honesty, without fear of judgment.
Ms. Umi calmly answered each question. She emphasized that family is the primary foundation of life. It is there that love, responsibility, and mutual respect are first taught. However, families are not immune to conflict.
She detailed the problems that frequently arise in households:
Lack of open communication due to busy schedules, which gives rise to misunderstandings.
Differences in parenting styles that trigger conflict.
Financial problems that cause tension.
Lack of quality time together despite living together.
Uncontrolled emotions due to life’s pressures.
But every problem, she said, always has a solution strategy.
Make time to discuss, even if briefly.
Share a shared vision for parenting.
Set an open and realistic budget.
Create moments of togetherness.
Learn to calm down before speaking.
The message was simple, but powerful: family harmony doesn’t happen instantly. It’s born from commitment, communication, and a willingness to understand each other.
Towards the end of the event, Mrs. Maryuni, S.Pd.SD., explained the five love languages: simple ways to express love that are often forgotten in the routine. Touch, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, and small, sincere gifts. All can be bridges to happiness.
That afternoon, the Ramadan Safari was more than just an annual event. It served as a reminder that family is the first and foremost madrasah. And the tutors at PKBM Al Zaytun are present not just as teachers, but as guides, lighting a small light in every home that longs to be warmed by love and faith.
