RRI Pro 4 Semarang and IPEMI Discuss Developing Batik Businesses, Preserving Ancestral Heritage
SEMARANG-JAYA NEWS.COM – Batik is one of Indonesia’s most valuable cultural heritages and has been recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Do you know the current development of batik?
The batik industry is not only a source of livelihood for many people, but also a symbol of national identity and pride. However, in this modern era, the batik industry faces various challenges that threaten its existence. This was conveyed by Nur Fateah of IPEMI (Indonesian Muslim Entrepreneurs Association) Semarang during a live broadcast on RRI Pro 4 Semarang on Saturday, November 15th.
Nur Fateah, a lecturer in Javanese Language and Literature, lecturer in entrepreneurship courses, and owner of Rumah Batik Adifa (@rumah_batik_adifa3), shared a brief overview of her role in introducing batik and explained the development of the batik industry on RRI Pro 4 Semarang with host Fahri Marlian.
Here’s Nur Fateah’s more complete explanation:
Her research on the lexicon of batik in Pekalongan has opened the discourse on understanding batik from an ethnolinguistic perspective. By understanding the lexicon of batik in Pekalongan, it is hoped that the public will learn more about batik, develop a greater love for it, and develop a spirit of participating in preserving it through their own abilities.
This research has opened the door to the possibility of studying batik from a linguistic perspective.
Introducing batik and the world of batik on a massive scale, small businesses are helping to preserve batik.
In its development, batik activists face many challenges, both at the MSME and industrial levels.
*Challenges Faced*
– *Competition with imported products*: Indonesian batik must compete with imported products that are cheaper and have modern designs.
– *Lack of public awareness*: Many Indonesians prefer imported products to local ones, including batik.
– *Limited Innovation*: The batik industry needs to continuously innovate to stay relevant with the times.
*Efforts to Maintain the Existence of the Batik Industry*
– *Improving Quality and Design*: Improve the quality of batik and develop modern and innovative designs.
– *Increasing Public Awareness*: Conducting promotional and educational campaigns about the importance of preserving batik culture.
– *Developing Online Marketing*: Using social media and e-commerce platforms to increase market reach.
– *Developing Collaborations with Young Designers*: Inviting young designers to collaborate and create modern and trendy batik designs.
*The Role of Government and Society*
– *Government Support*: The government can provide assistance and incentives to batik entrepreneurs, such as training and capital assistance.
– *Community Participation*: The public can support the batik industry by purchasing batik products and promoting them to others.
The public still doesn’t fully understand the difference between genuine batik and the batik-patterned fabrics produced by large factories abroad and imported into Indonesia at relatively lower prices. This presents a challenge for the existence of batik in Indonesia, especially for batik developed by MSMEs. In addition to the need for more public awareness campaigns about what Indonesian batik is, how to preserve it, and the distinction between batik and batik-patterned fabric, the new government must continue its efforts to preserve this ancestral heritage. With collective efforts, the Indonesian batik industry can continue to grow and become a strong pillar of the creative economy. Let us protect and preserve this precious cultural heritage.**
