Eretan Wetan Residents Hold Demonstration, Urging Government to Speed Up Mitigation of Tidal Floods

The residents of Eretan Wetan, Kandang Haur District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, a coastal village prone to tidal flooding, took to the streets again today to demand accelerated mitigation of the tidal flooding that has become a serious threat to local residents. The peaceful demonstration was attended by hundreds of residents, including community leaders and environmental activists, on Friday, November 7, 2025.
According to a statement from one of the residents, tidal floods have caused severe damage to homes and village infrastructure, as well as disrupted economic and educational activities.
“We have been asking the government for years to help address this problem, but there has been no concrete action,” he said.
The residents of Eretan Wetan are urging the government to take immediate concrete steps, including building flood retaining walls and improving the drainage system, to address the tidal flooding that has worsened each year. They are also asking the government to provide assistance to affected residents.
It is hoped that this demonstration will raise serious concerns for the government, prompting them to take immediate and concrete action to address the tidal flooding problem in Eretan Wetan.
