Historic! Film and Creative Workers Officially Protected Under New Manpower Law

FSPPI Secretary General, Barbie Kumalasari

JAKARTA-JAYA-NEWS.COM – Thousands of workers from the Indonesian Labor Struggle Coalition (KBPBI) crowded in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Building on Tuesday (10/06/2026), overseeing the ratification of the Manpower Protection Bill in a plenary session.

Under the scorching sun, the Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Film Workers Union (FSPPI) Dr. Rizal Djibran, S.Sos., M.M., CFA, took to the command car along with FSPPI Secretary General Barbie Kumalasari to deliver an oration.

The long struggle has finally paid off. For the first time in history, protection for film, arts, and creative economy workers is officially included in the new Manpower Law, specifically in Article 95B paragraph (1) letter L.

“This is the first time in history that protection for artists has been included in the new Manpower Law,” said Dr. Rizal Djibran in the courtyard of the MPR/DPR RI Building.

Rizal said this achievement began with a long study by the Film Research and Development Institute (LP3) to his doctoral dissertation, which was continuously fought for together with confederations and federations of trade unions.

According to him, film and creative workers have long faced special issues regarding work relations, certainty of rights, and professional protection.

Although the law has been ratified, Rizal emphasized that the struggle is not over. Monitoring must continue until derivative regulations are issued at both central and regional government levels.

“Of course, we must continue to oversee it in government regulations, both central and regional governments,” he stressed.

With this ratification, the Indonesian creative industry is entering a new chapter to ensure that legal protection truly exists for workers on the ground.
