UNNES Benchmarks UGM to Strengthen OBE Curriculum and International Accreditation
SEMARANG-JAYA NEWS.COM — The Undergraduate Chemistry Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Semarang State University (UNNES), conducted a benchmarking visit to the Chemistry Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Monday (11/17/2025).
This visit was part of UNNES’s efforts to improve the quality of academic governance, strengthen the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, and prepare for international accreditation.
The benchmarking team, consisting of six lecturers and administrators of the UNNES Chemistry Study Program, was led by the Head of the Chemistry Study Program, Prof. Dr. Nanik Wijayati, M.Si. They were received by the leadership and lecturers of the UGM Chemistry Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta.
During the visit, UGM presented various good practices in OBE curriculum development, learning achievement assessment management, continuous quality improvement strategies, and experience in obtaining international accreditation.
The UNNES delegation also visited various laboratory facilities, research centers, and technology-based learning spaces, which are the hallmarks of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
Prof. Nanik Wijayati stated that this visit was strategic for UNNES in strengthening the quality of higher education.
“UGM has extensive experience in implementing OBE and international accreditation. We can adopt many aspects to improve the quality of academic services in the UNNES Chemistry Study Program,” she said.
In addition to exchanging experiences, the benchmarking session also discussed collaboration opportunities in research, scientific publications, lecturer exchanges, and laboratory strengthening programs. Both institutions agreed to explore further collaboration through the preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or MoA.
Representatives of the UGM Chemistry Study Program welcomed the UNNES initiative. They emphasized the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions in strengthening the research and learning ecosystem in Indonesia.
The benchmarking session concluded with a discussion of follow-up plans and a group photo session. The results of this visit are expected to strengthen the UNNES Chemistry Study Program’s efforts to increase academic competitiveness at the national and international levels.**
