The Riau Regional Police Hold a Green Policing Workshop for 311 Student Council (OSIS) Presidents across Riau and Plant 21,000 Trees Simultaneously from November 10–21

PEKANBARU-JAYA NEWS.COM – The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) has prepared two strategic agendas to take place simultaneously this November as part of its commitment to strengthening the ecological movement.

The two agendas are a Green Policing Workshop for 311 SMA/SMK/MA Student Council (OSIS) Presidents across Riau on November 12–14, and a Simultaneous Tree Planting Program of 21,000 trees across all Polres (Regional Police) and work units (Satker Satker) of the Riau Regional Police on November 10–21, 2025, in commemoration of National Tree Day.

Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan emphasized that this large-scale tree planting initiative represents a concrete step by the police institution to preserve the environment and to expand the values of Green Policing into the Polri’s work culture.

“Planting 21,000 trees is our moral and ecological endeavor to ensure the earth remains well-preserved. We are mobilizing all police precincts, police sectors, and work units of the Riau Regional Police to ensure this reforestation is carried out in a massive, measurable, and sustainable manner,” stated the Chief of Police on Monday (11/10/25).

The Chief of Police, familiarly known as Herimen, explained that tree planting will take place in the courtyard of the headquarters, vacant land managed by regional units, and at locations prepared in collaboration with the local government.

Each work unit and police precinct are required to document, record, and report on tree growth regularly.

“This initiative must have a long-term impact. It cannot be planted and then abandoned. Every tree is a trust, every planting location is a future,” he said.

The series of activities will be carried out in stages, starting from preparing the planting holes, transporting the seedlings, and planting simultaneously by all police personnel, Bhayangkari (the Indonesian National Police), university students, schoolchildren, nature lovers, and the surrounding community.

In conjunction with the greening movement, the Riau Regional Police’s Directorate of Community Development (Ditbinmas) also held a Green Policing Workshop, attended by 311 student council (OSIS) leaders from all regencies/cities in Riau.

This three-day event is designed to foster green leadership among students, strengthen awareness of the importance of environmental protection, and instill the value of “Protecting Good Fortune, Maintaining Dignity” as the moral identity of Riau’s young generation.

The workshop will be opened by the Regional Police Chief at Alam Mayang, Pekanbaru, with a series of activities including speeches by Tunas Muda, environmental tours, tree planting, creative content creation, and the signing of the Green Policing Student Declaration.

Through an approach that combines education, hands-on experience, and digital creativity, students are encouraged to understand that the green movement is both a lifestyle and a social responsibility.

The Director of Community Development of the Riau Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Eko Budhi, explained that the selection of the OSIS leaders was not without reason. They are school leaders with influence and mobilization capacity.

“The student council presidents are the main drivers in their schools. Through this workshop, we are preparing them to become student environmental pioneers in Riau. They will be the conduits of the Green Policing message in schools, communities, and digital spaces,” he said.

On November 13, participants will attend an environmental seminar in the Tribrata Hall of the Riau Regional Police Headquarters, with materials from various directorates within the Riau Regional Police and environmental partners.

The topics will cover environmental law enforcement, patterns of ecosystem damage, the dangers of drugs, traffic safety, and the role of youth in building a modern green movement.

“Each participant will also take part in a creative competition, which will be judged by an independent team from the education and cultural sectors,” said Senior Commissioner Eko.

On November 14, activities continued at the Riau Regional Police Tree Bank with a Green Harmoni Tabung Tour. Participants learned how to make tree seedlings, compost, and liquid fertilizer, and understand sustainable environmental management.

The event concluded with the inauguration of the Green Policing Students and the presentation of awards to the competition winners.

Inspector General Herry added that these two major agendas are the foundation of the Riau Regional Police’s long-term efforts to strengthen the ecological movement in Lancang Kuning.

“If trees are a physical legacy for the earth, then students are an intellectual legacy for the future. This movement must go hand in hand. We plant trees while cultivating a new, greener, more caring, and more responsible perspective,” said Inspector General Herry.**
