Inspecting the SMAN 1 Bongas Rehabilitation Project, Ono Surono Encourages Public Involvement in Oversight
INDRAMAYU-JAYA NEWS.COM – Deputy Speaker of the West Java Provincial DPRD, Ono Surono, along with the West Java Inspectorate, inspected the rehabilitation project of SMAN 1 Bongas in Indramayu Regency on Friday (October 24, 2025). This visit served as direct oversight of the implementation of the Rp 2.3 billion project, funded by the West Java Provincial Government.
Ono emphasized that this visit demonstrates a shared commitment between the DPRD and the Governor of West Java to ensure that all development is carried out with quality, on target, and transparently.
“This visit is part of the DPRD’s oversight function. We want to ensure that development in West Java is proceeding smoothly, according to plan and regulations,” Ono emphasized.
Ono explained that this year the West Java Provincial Government is prioritizing the rehabilitation of damaged schools, including the construction of new classrooms and repair of educational facilities affected by disasters. SMAN 1 Bongas is one of the schools undergoing rehabilitation due to the deplorable condition of its buildings.
“The soil at this location was unstable due to poorly compacted rice paddy fill. The old building was constructed without adapting to the soil conditions, so after 10 years, it cracked and became potentially dangerous. Now, thank God, Rp 2.3 billion has been allocated for repairs,” he explained.
Responding to several news reports highlighting alleged deviations from specifications and issues with workers’ wages, Ono emphasized that the West Java Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) will not tolerate any violations in the construction process.
“If there are any irregularities, there are mechanisms. There are supervisory consultants, the Education Office, the Inspectorate, and even law enforcement officials such as the police, the prosecutor’s office, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). All information must be transparent so that the results can be accounted for,” he said firmly.
He emphasized that oversight of development projects is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the public and the media.
“The Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) cannot work alone. Oversight also needs to be carried out by the public and media partners to ensure that development in West Java is truly on target,” said Ono.
Ono found several important technical notes, including design changes and adjustments to school facilities. He emphasized the need for active involvement of schools and committees in every stage of construction.
“Users must be involved. For school projects, the principal, teachers, and committee are required to participate in supervision. This way, there will be early detection if work does not meet specifications,” he concluded.
Furthermore, Ono emphasized the importance of transparency in project documents between the contractor and the school.
“The principal must have the working drawings and the budget (RAB). This is crucial so that oversight can be carried out objectively and the development truly benefits the community,” he said.
Therefore, Ono reiterated that every development project in West Java must be carried out transparently, efficiently, and oriented towards quality education.
“We want to ensure that all development in West Java runs smoothly and with the highest quality,” he concluded.**
