National Batik Day is celebrated every October 2nd to honor UNESCO’s designation of batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
The purpose of this commemoration is to preserve and promote batik as part of Indonesian culture.
A Brief History of Batik
Batik has been a part of Indonesian life since the Majapahit Kingdom.
Initially, batik was only worn by the nobility and royal families.
However, over time, batik has developed in various regions with different motifs and meanings.
“Batik Merawit” is the theme of the National Batik Day celebration on October 2, 2025, showcasing the beauty of Cirebon’s Merawit Batik.
This celebration will run from October 2 to November 30, 2025, with various activities such as exhibitions, batik design competitions, and a mass batik-wearing movement.
As a form of respect, people wear batik, especially on Fridays, and participate in activities that promote batik, such as exhibitions and workshops.
And learn about the history and meaning of batik to increase awareness and appreciation of Indonesian culture, which is now known worldwide. **
