The Great Mosque of Sang Cipta Rasa, Cirebon, is one of the oldest and most historic mosques in Indonesia, built in 1489 on the initiative of Sunan Gunung Jati, one of the Walisongo (Walisongo). Located near the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon, West Java Province, the mosque boasts unique architecture with a three-tiered pyramid-shaped roof, reflecting the fusion of Javanese and Islamic cultures.
The mosque is famous for its tradition of the Adzan Pitu (pitu call to prayer), where seven muezzins simultaneously call the call to prayer during Friday prayers, symbolizing the strength of Islamic propagation in Cirebon.
The unique pillars, made from small pieces of teak wood (tihang tatal), are arranged into a single pillar, symbolizing diversity united by the strength of faith.
This mosque maintains an ancient Javanese architectural style with a classic feel, without a minaret, and with a large drum and kentongan (a traditional Javanese drum) to announce prayer times.
The Sang Cipta Rasa Mosque serves as a center for religious activities and Islamic traditions in Cirebon, such as the study of the yellow texts, the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday celebrations, and Friday night religious studies.
It also serves as an attractive religious tourism destination, with strong historical and spiritual value.**
