PADANG-JAYA NEWS.COM – Dianita Maulin Vasko, Chair of BKOW who is also an Expert Staff of the PKK West Sumatra Team, together with Ibnu Azis, Deputy Mayor of Bukittinggi, will read poetry for Gaza with poets, artists, and community figures from West Sumatra on Sunday morning (22/06/2025) in the Forkasmi area of the Agus Salim Sports Hall, Padang, West Sumatra Province.
According to Sastri Bakry, National Coordinator of the World Poetry Movement (WPM), to Jaya-News.com Contributors in Padang, Thursday (12/06/2025), this activity was organized by WPM in collaboration with various communities.
Among others are Satu Pena Sumbar, FKPPI, DHD 45, Siti Manggopoh Association, PPIPM, Forkasmi, HWK Sumbar, as well as literacy, arts and culture, religious communities, and others.
“The poetry movement for Gaza has been held simultaneously in various countries since May 15, with the peak event on June 28-29 online through the WPM channel. A total of 179 poets from 121 countries will participate,” he explained.
In Indonesia, several activities have been held. One of them is “Indonesian Poets Reading Gaza” on May 31 at PDS HB Jassin, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Jakarta.
Eka Fitriyah Fauzar, Chair of the Poetry Reading Committee for Gaza with the theme “Love and Save Gaza”, said that Gaza today is a symbol of immeasurable human suffering.
“The prolonged blockade, continuous attacks, and uncertainty haunt their lives. The people of Gaza live in endless fear and suffering,” he said in a soft voice.
“We all have a responsibility to help Gaza, voice their suffering, defend their rights, and support their struggle. We must not remain silent, close our eyes, or pretend not to know,” he said again.
Without difficulty, we can build collaboration with many communities, showing a sincere sense of brotherhood through poetry.
“Let’s unite, speak, and act. Show that we care about Gaza, about their suffering, and that we will fight for justice and peace,” he said.
According to him, no matter how small our efforts to voice Gaza, it already shows our commitment and responsibility for our faith.
“We believe that injustice, tyranny, and colonialism must be fought,” added Eka.
Eka Fitriyah Fauzar, accompanied by Suryenti (Committee) and Basnurida (Chair of the Siti Manggopoh Association), expressed her joy again over the spontaneous support from community leaders, poets, and artists.
The preparation for the event has reached 80% thanks to this enthusiasm.
“Nasyid Alfajr Group, Sumbar Talenta, Barabah Group, as well as famous poetry readers from Sumbar such as Andrea C. Tamsin, Yeny Ibrahim, Zamzami Ismail, Leni Marlina, and young poets also showed their concern for Gaza through poetry,” he concluded while reviewing the event location. (***)
